X-Rays

In most cases, dentists have moved away from traditional x-rays due to the advantages of digital x-rays. Dr. Kazerooni provides digital x-rays ONLY using the latest technology. Traditional x-ray technology exposes patients to more radiation, however they are considered to be safe. The amount of radiation a dental patient typically receives is about 0.005 mSv, which is about as much as you will receive flying from Virginia to California.

How is traditional dental x-rays different from digital x-rays?

Traditional x-rays relied on photographic film to be processed where it required the film to be exposed to chemicals in a dark room. Human error and freshness of chemicals contributed to overexposure or underexposure of films leading to error in reading the films. At times, the patients were asked to be x-rayed again leading unnecessary radiation. Our practice uses digital x-rays.
